It seems that a <a href="http://www.krellis.org/unix-stuff/mysql-freebsd-threads.html" rel="nofollow">possible fix</a> is available, but I am unable to utilize it. Due to the crippled state of the operating system on Verio's server, I am unable to patch the kernel as is needed to apply the fix.
